Telangana Cop Shoots Self, Seniors ‘Harassed’ Him Says Family

imagesTELANGANA L The alleged suicide of a police sub-inspector in Telangana has caused quite a stir in the state. 45 years old Ramakrishna Reddy was found dead at his government resident with a gunshot wound to his head. According to his colleagues Mr Reddy was alone when the incident occurred.

Reddy’s kin allege that he was forced to take the final step after relentless harassment by senior police officers. They also claim that investigators probing Mr Reddy’s death may have suppressed a suicide note that he wrote mentioning his reasons for taking the extreme step. The police remain tight-lipped about whether a suicide note was recovered from the spot or not.

Medak district Superintendent of Police Chandrashekar Reddy visited the Gajwel hospital today, where the sub-inspector’s remains are kept, and assured his kin that a thorough and fair probe into the death was being conducted.  Ramakrishna Reddy, a former serviceman, was a native of Nalgonda district and is survived by his wife and two children.

Telangana has achieved the dubious distinction of recording the second highest suicide rate in the country. Only Sikkim has recorded a higher suicide rate, which is defined as number of suicides per one lakh of population during a year.
