Disruption in Parliament is unacceptable Says Prez Mukherjee

: NEW DELHI NEW DELHI NEW DELHI : President Pranab Mukherjee expressed concern over continued logjam in Parliament and said, people send their representatives to Parliament to debate, transact business and not to sit on dharnas, while delivering a lecture on Electoral Reforms in New Delhi today. He said, disruptions in Parliament are unacceptable.

Maintaining that he is not targeting any single party or individuals, the President said, it is the responsibility of everyone. He urged the senior leaders of all parties to resolve the differences, however serious they may be, and ensure smooth functioning of Parliament.

The President pitched for increasing the number of Lok Sabha seats to make the House more representative. He also emphasised on holding simultaneous elections to the Lok Sabha and state assemblies maintaining that it can save public money. On the model code of conduct, which comes into effect after announcement of polls, Mr Mukherjee said, the period should be reduced so that development is least affected.

He also suggested that central developmental schemes should not be halted during the assembly elections. The President also called for reviving the Women Reservation Bill which has already been passed by the Rajya Sabha.
