Haryana INLD chief Nafe Singh Rathee shot dead in Jhajjar

CHANDIGRAH: Haryana Indian National Lok Dal(INLD) president and former Bahadurgarh MLA Nafe Singh Rathi was shot dead by unknown assailants who opened fire this evening by unidentified gunmen who ambushed the SUV he was travelling by in Jhajjar district. Rakesh Sihag, the head of the INLD’s media cell, confirmed Nafe Singh Rathi’s death in the shootout.
His three security personnel also received multiple bullet injuries in this attack. Miscreants have committed this incident near Barahi gate. In this attack, Nafe Singh Rathi was hit by two bullets in his neck. Apart from this, there were bullets in his waist also. A security personnel also died in this attack.
According to the information, the miscreants had come in an I-10 vehicle. They fired a volley of bullets at Nafe Singh’s car. Others injured in the attack have also been admitted to Brahmashakti Sanjeevani Hospital in critical condition. As soon as the information about the matter was received, the police reached the spot.
Gangster Lawrence Bishnoi and his close associate Kala Jathedi are suspected to be behind the attack. Initial inquiries suggest that the attack was due to a property dispute.Nafe Singh Rathi served as an MLA of the INLD from Bahadurgarh where the attack took place. The state police is on alert after the shocking attack. Several teams have been swiftly mobilised to the scene of the crime and are collecting evidence to ascertain the circumstances surrounding the attack. Authorities are reviewing CCTV footage from various locations in the vicinity to determine the route of the attacker’s arrival and their subsequent escape route.
Nafe Singh Rathi has a prominent political background, having served twice as a legislator in the Haryana Legislative Assembly. He was also the state president of the Haryana Former Legislators Association. Rathi once contested Lok Sabha elections from Rohtak constituency and had been actively involved in political affairs.
However, His name hit headlines last year when former Haryana minister Mange Ram Rathi’s son Jagdish Rathi died by suicide and a case was filed against Nafe Singh Rathi under the charges of abetment. Allegations of harassment were subsequently leveled against Rathi and his nephew Sonu in connection with the suicide case. Rathi was granted anticipatory bail by the High Court on January 24, 2023.
Rathee faced legal issues in January 2023, when he was declared the main accused in the suicide case of Jagdish Rathi, son of former BJP minister Mange Ram Rathi, and booked under Section 306 (abetment to suicide). A lookout circular was issued by the Jhajjar district police to prevent him from leaving the country.
A few days after the case against Nafe Singh Rathee, his son Jitender Rathee was arrested in connection with installation of an electricity meter.The Rathee family had then slammed the arrest as “an attempt to pressurise them and crush the Opposition ”.Chautala had dismissed these allegations as a “political conspiracy,”
On January 19 this year, the police had issued a lookout circular in the suicide case of the son of former minister Mangeram Rathi. FIR has been registered against 6 people including former MLA Nafe Singh Rathi in the suicide case of Jagdish Nambardar. The accused had not been arrested yet. However, the police were also continuously raiding.
ASP Amit Yashvardhan, head of the SIT formed to investigate and take action in the case, said that all efforts are being made to arrest all the six accused. A lookout circular was also issued against the main accused Nafe Singh Rathi so that the accused could not leave the country.
