rahul 5NEW DELHI : As the ground-breaking ceremony of bhoomi pujan for Ram temple begins in Ayodhya, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi on Wednesday hailed Lord Ram as an epitome of “love, justice and compassion.”
Taking to Twitter, the former Congress chief said that Lord Ram is the ultimate embodiment of supreme human values and can never appear in cruelty, hatred or injustice.
“Maryada Purushottam Lord Rama is the manifestation of the highest human qualities. He is the core of humanism embedded deep in our hearts. Ram is love, he can never appear in hatred, Ram is compassion, he can never appear in cruelty, Ram is justice, he can never appear in justice,” Gandhi tweeted in Hindi.
Congress’s Rahul Gandhi today posted a tweet hailing Lord Ram as the ground-breaking ceremony for a temple started in Ayodhya, saying he is the embodiment of love, compassion and justice. His tweet comes a day after his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra expressed hope that today’s ceremony will become an occasion for “national unity, fraternity and cultural congregation”.
Mr Gandhi’s hard-hitting tweet did not mention the BJP. Roughly translated from Hindi, the tweet read, “Maryada Purushottam Lord Rama is the manifestation of the best human qualities. He represents the humanity that lies in the depths of our mind. Ram is love. He is never manifested in hatred. Ram is compassion. He is never manifested in cruelty. Ram is justice. He is never manifested through injustice.”

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Narendra Modi performed the bhoomi pujan of Ram temple in Ayodhya, paving way for the construction of the highly-anticipated shrine at the site where a large number of Hindu devotees believe Lord Ram was born.A total of 175 people including RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat and Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath attended the event.
Priyanka Gandhi’s tweet comes a day after his sister and Congress general secretary Priyanka openly supported the ground-breaking ceremony and hoped that the event becomes a marker of “national unity, brotherhood and cultural harmony.”
“Hope this event becomes a celebration of national unity, brotherhood and cultural harmony in accordance with the message of Lord Ram and with his blessings,” she had said on Tuesday while hoping that the ceremony spreads the message and blessings of Lord Ram all across.
“Simplicity, courage, restraint, sacrifice, commitment are the essence of the name Deenbandhu Ram. Lord Ram belongs to everybody. Lord Ram wants everybody’s welfare. That is why he is called ‘Maryada Purshottam’,” Priyanka added.

“The Congress’ statement on Lord Ram is a historic U-turn. Congress filed an affidavit (in the Supreme Court) denying the existence of Lord Ram. It is his magic (leela) that the general secretary of the political party that denied his existence is praising him today,” Shekhawat said in a statement in Hindi.

In 2007, the then UPA government had filed an affidavit in the Supreme Court saying there was no historical proof of the existence of Ram.
Around 150 people, including Mohan Bhagwat, the chief of BJP’s ideological mentor Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh, Uttar Pradesh Governor, and other VIPs were present at the event.
