PM Modi launches 84 smart projects of 2000 crore rupees from 20 cities in Pune

227094-1921437PUNEL Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched 84 smart projects of 2000 crore rupees from 20 cities in Pune this evening. Speaking on the occssion Mr. Modi said Smart City project is not mere allocation of funds but a mass movement.

Mr Modi said urbanisation should be seen not as a problem but an opportunity. He said people of India are the smartest and great things can be achieved once their skills are harnessed. He said there is a positive atmosphere of competion for development works. The Prime Minister also inaugurated a Smart net portal in a function organised in Pune today.

Earlier, speaking on the occasion, Urban Development Minister Venkaiah Naidu said Housing For Poor is an important aspect of the Smart City Project. He claimed that about 70 percent of the urban population will benefit from proper planning and execution.

The Minister said urban local bodies are asserting themselves for the first time and urban planning and execution has begun. He said 1.50 crore people took part in preparation of Smart City plans which reflect people’s choices. Saying that a new urban renaissance is taking place, Mr Naidu asserted that lives of people in cities will be made better.
According to reports that these projects are related to solid waste management under Swachh Bharat Mission, water supply projects, sewage treatment plants and development of open and green spaces under Atal Mission. It also includes housing projects for urban poor under Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana and area development and technology based pan-city solutions under Smart Cities Mission.
