CBI team to visit Badaun on Friday to probe gang-rape case
LUCKNOW: The Team of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) will today reach Badaun to begin probe into the gang-rape and murder of two teenaged sisters.According to reports, a CBI team led by DIG Neeraj Kumar, nineteen other officials and forensic experts will arrive in Badaun to investigate the case and cross-examine the witnesses.
The CBI yesterday registered an FIR in the alleged Badaun rape case and the Akhilesh Yadav government handed over the probe to it after much criticism from several quarters.
The two cousin sisters aged 14 and 15 were allegedly raped and later hanged from a tree on 27 May in Katra Sadatganj village of Badaun district, causing a national uproar.
All the six accused, including the key accused Pappu Yadav and a policeman, have been arrested in connection with the case. The Special Investigation Team (SIT) of Uttar Pradesh police initially investigated this incident. The victims’ family and political parties like the Congress and the Bahujan Samaj Party had advocated CBI probe into the case. The Centre had on Tuesday recommended CBI probe into the horrific incident.
