Shiv Sena Corporator Charged With Molesting Teen in Mumbai
MUMBAI : Shiv Sena corporator Namdeo Bhagat has allegedly molested a 19-year-old girl in Uran area near Mumbai. An FIR has been lodged against Namdeo Bhagat in this regard. Notably, 51-year-old Bhagat is the former manager of CIDCO (City and Industrial Development Corporation).
Bhagat is said to be an influential politician in Navi Mumbai. He has not been arrested as yet. Shiv Sena has not issued any official statement in this regard. The girl filed a complaint against Bhagat on Monday. She alleged that Bhagat took her to his farmhouse at Dighode village in Uran on Sunday.
The complainant claimed that Nerul corporator Bhagat took her along on the pretext of providing monetary help to her. However, she was allegedly molested. The Uran Police have filed an FIR under Indian Penal Section (IPC) Section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage modesty).
According to the police inspector (crime) Atul Aher, Bhagat is absconding. The Shiv Sena corporator is also a member of the Navi Mumbai Municipal Corporation’s standing committee. On Monday, the Maharashtra Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) held ex-Shiv Sena corporator Shrikant Pangarkar from Jalna in connection with its probe into the August 9 arms seizures in Palghar.
Pangarkar, the former two-term Shiv Sena corporator from Jalna, resigned from the party in 2011 and became a full-time Hindutva activist. The woman filed a complaint after which an offence under IPC section 354 (assault or criminal force to woman with intent to outrage her modesty) was registered against the corporator yesterday at the Uran police station, the official said.
Namdeo Bhagat is absconding, he said, adding further probe is underway.(With Agency Inputs ).
