Wasim Jaffer created a record which even eluded Sachin
NEW DELHI: Former Indian cricketer Wasim Jaffer who had decided to play for Vidarbha instead of his home state Mumbai, scripted history by becoming the first batsman to cross the 10,000-run mark in the Ranji Trophy on Sunday.
The 37-year-old veteran opener was the leading run-scorer in the domestic first-cricket championship since the day he surpassed Amol Muzumdar’s mark of 9202.
Jaffer, who has a batting average of 58.14 in Ranji, achieved the milestone while playing for Vidarbha against Bengal at the Jadavpur University campus ground in Kolkata.
The right-hander batsman, who made his Test debut against South Africa in 2000, has scored 1944 in 31 matches with five centuries and 11 half-tons.
