UPA set to revive Snoopgate probe to target Narendra Modi
NEW DELHI : With the ‘Modi wave’ fast becoming a ‘Modi tsunami’ – at least in the words of BJP leader Amit Shah – the Congress is going back to the Snoopgate scandal to counter the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate. As per a report in a leading English daily, the Congress-led UPA government is reviving its plan to appoint a judicial panel to look into the claims of illegal spying on a woman in Gujarat, allegedly at the behest of Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi.
Amit Shah is also accused of involvement in the case.
Union Law Minister UPA governmentsaid on Monday in Ahmedabad that the government would set up a one-man judicial commission soon to investigate the allegation “The judge heading the commission will be appointed before the result day on May 16,” Sibal told reporters, making it amply clear the move would be the UPA’s parting shot before it leaves office.Opinion surveys have predicted a big defeat for the ruling coalition in the ongoing General Elections.
Back in December last year, the UPA government had said that it would appoint a commission to probe the alleged illegal surveillance by the Gujarat police at the behest of Shah and one ‘Saheb’, said to be Modi himself.
