Sivan Journalist Murder: Man Who Allegedly Ordered Killing Surrenders
PATNA: key suspect in the killing of a journalist in Bihar last month has surrendered before a court in Siwan.Laddan Miyan was wanted in connection with the murder of Rajdeo Ranjan, bureau chief of a Hindi daily, who was shot dead on May 13 by unidentified men.
Miyan is a close associate of notorious gangster and former RJD lawmaker Mohammad Shahabuddin who is in jail for over a decade for charges including kidnapping and murder. Shahabuddin was shifted to Bhagalpur jail from Siwan after the incident.
Police on May 25 had arrested five people in connection with Mr Ranjan’s murder and recovered a country-made pistol used in the crime from Rohit Kumar, who the police claimed, has confessed to having shot the journalist.
During interrogation, it came to light that Miyan, a repeat offender who came out of Siwan jail in late April, had given the contract for Mr Ranjan’s murder, police said.
They told police that Miyan had given Rs. 15,000 to Kumar for the murder and promised to help another accused in settlement of a land dispute at his in-laws’ place, the police said
