Sanjay Dutt’s parole ends today, to return to Yerwada Jail
MUMBAI : Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt’s parole has ended today and he will return to Yerwada Jail on Saturday (March 22).Mr Dutt is currently serving the remaining 42 months of his sentence for illegal possession of arms in a case related to the 1993 serial blasts, in which over 250 people were killed.
Mr Dutt was released from the Pune’s jail on a one-month parole on December 21, 2013. The parole was later extended by a month, till February 21. Mr Dutt had applied for an extension in the parole citing his wife Maanyata’s ill health as the reason. Maanyata reportedly has a tumour in the liver.
The jail authorities in Pune have said that Mr Dutt’s parole ends on Friday but as per the rule he gets one day for travel and should be back by Saturday. Of the 303 days of jail term, Mr Dutt has spent 118 days out of prison either on parole or furlough. In 2013, the Supreme Court had announced a five-year prison term for the actor. He has already served 18 months of his jail term. He was shifted to Pune’s Yerwada Central Jail in May 2013 after he surrendered before a Special Court.
