Prime Minister exhorts people to move towards cashless society

550362-modi700NEW DELHI : Prime Minister Narendra Modi today gave a clarion call to the youth of the nation to take the initiative to usher in a cashless society.”I have said that demonetisation decision is huge and it will take minimum 50 days to overcome from it,” PM Modi said, adding, “I’m confident India will succeed in this.”

On people facing cash crunch, he said, “I understand your problems but for a disease which has infected our country for 70 years, treatment can’t be simple. Your support despite severe problems has touched me. You have not wavered despite efforts to misguide you.”
“A few people are stilling looking for ways to convert their black money into white, using poor people for this. Don’t play with lives of poor by depositing illegal money into their accounts,” PM Modi told unscrupulous elements.

Sharing his thoughts in Mann Ki Baat programme on All India Radio, Mr Modi said, young people are the agents of change. He said, the youth should take to online transactions which are safe and secure and help instructing the elderly on online purchasing.

Mr Modi asked young men and women to teach at least 10 families everyday how to go cashless and make electronic payments. He said , common man will be trouble free if they are made aware of the digital financial transaction options and youths can do this quickly. Mr Modi also urged small traders to enter the digital world to increase their business.

PM Modi emphasised, “I took this decision for the country’s poor, farmer, labour, deprived and for those who are suffering. Workers are not paid minimum wages, get less than written on paper. Opening bank accounts will help solve this problem.”

“There has been 300% increase in the use of Rupay card since poor people started using it, it is as simple as sending a WhatsApp. I want to urge that the time is right, you too enter the digital world. “I invite you all to not only support me but be a soldier of change and achieve it. We will fight to free India from corruption and black money,” PM Modi reiterated.

Prime Minister sought everyone’s cooperation to make the campaign against black money a success. The Prime Minister said, the dream is a cashless society, but why can’t India move towards a less-cash society.

He said, those who are trying hard to bring back black money into the system by putting it into poor people’s accounts, will be severely punished if found guilty of Benami transactions. Mr Modi said, it will take 50 days for situation to normalise the effect of demonetization. He said, it is not easy to get rid of 70 year old problem.

Mentioning about the village heads of Jammu and Kashmir who created awareness education in the valley, Mr Modi said, recently they discussed prevailing situation in the state with him.

He expressed happiness that the recent board examinations saw 95 per cent attendance in Jammu and Kashmir. Commending the youth for their enthusiasm, Mr Modi said, youth of Jammu and Kashmir aspires to rise in life through education.
