Modi orders ministries to have Twitter, Facebook account
NEW DELHI :The ministries of the National Democratic Alliance (NDA) government have been asked to make accounts on social networking websites like Twitter and Facebook.
According to sources, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has himself given the directions to the ministers to supervise the presence of ministries on the social networks. Modi has told the ministries to entrust joint secretary level officers with the job of updating the Facebook and Twitter accounts atleast in every 15 days.
It may be noted that Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) made its Facebook account soon after Modi assumed the office. His ministers also keep on informing major decisions of the ministries on their Twitter accounts. Earlier, Modi had asked the ministries to use Hindi on social networking platforms, a move widely criticised by the non-Hindi speaking leaders. After the furore, the government clarified that the order was only for Hindi-speaking states.
A circular had also announced prize money of Rs.2,000 to two employees who do their official work mostly in Hindi. Narendra Modi prominently used social networking websites during his election campaign to whip up popular support in his favour. Riding on a Modi-wave, the NDA clinched 336 seats in the Lok Sabha elections.
