Intolerance row: Rahul makes scathing attack on Modi govt, Mohan Bhagwat
NEW DELHI: Even as actor Anupam Kher held a march against AwardWapsi and the allegation that India is witnessing growing intolerance under the BJP government, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi mounted a clear attack on the Modi government and RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat.
Speaking at the ‘No Peace Without Freedom’ conference on Jawaharlal Nehru, Rahul said, “What brings us together here is our deep concern about the assault on our liberty, on our rights and democratic space.
For the first time we have a fascist government at the Centre. A sense of fear is now spreading throughout India”.”We’re here because both peace and freedom have been viciously wounded in our country”, he added.
He further stated that the country did not need the ‘mediocre thinking’ of RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat.Invoking Pandit Nehru in this regard, Rahul opined, “Pandit Nehru was a deeply tolerant man.
He saw strength in the fact that every Indian had a different background and story. To him, India’s tolerance was what made us great. Our tolerance was what we had to offer the rest of the world”.
