Don’t think so: Sayeed on Mehbooba joining Modi Cabinet
SRINAGAR: Amid speculation that PDP leader Mehbooba Mufti may be inducted into the Union Cabinet, Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed on Monday denied knowledge of any such development.
“I don’t think so,” is what he is reported to have told reporters when asked about Mehbooba’s likely inclusion in the Narendra Modi government.
It may be noted that the BJP and PDP had recently formed a coalition government in Jammu and Kashmir and there had been speculation that the J&K party may find a place in the Union Cabinet soon.
Reports have said that the next Cabinet reshuffle may happen as early as April 8, before PM Modi departs on a three-nation foreign tour on April 9.The exercise “will focus on improving governance and accommodating allies”, a Bharatiya Janata Party source had said.
It will be the second reshuffle for the BJP-led National Democratic Alliance government in the past 10 months.Sources said a leader from election-bound Bihar and one from the Shiv Sena may also be inducted in the Council of Ministers.
Some ministers are likely to be promoted. Ram Madhav, who played a key role in the formation of a BJP-PDP alliance in Jammu and Kashmir, may also get a place in the government.
