Dalit family set afire in Faridabad
FARIDABAD: In a shocking incident, four members of a Dalit family, including two children, were set afire allegedly by the upper caste men in Sunped village here. The two children (aged 10 months and two years respectively) were declared brought dead on arrival at a hospital in Delhi.
The incident took place in Prithla region where the house of a Dalit family was set afire around 3 a.m, according to the initial reports. Four persons including two children sustained burn injuries and were referred to Delhi’s Safdarjung Hospital. The parents are diagnosed with 30 per cent and five per cent burns.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Ballabgarh) Bhupinder Singh, however, said that there were no signs of attack on the house and only the bed on which the four members of the family were sleeping had caught fire. “We are trying to find out as to what caused the fire. A jagran was going on in the vicinity of the house and no body noticed anything suspicious.”
The village has a history of clash between the Dalits and the Upper Caste men. Three persons were murdered in a clash between the two groups last year. The attack on the Dalit house today [on Tuesday] is seen as an act of revenge.
The situation in the village is tense following the incident and police have been deployed in large numbers. Senior police officers, including the Faridabad Police Commissioner Subhash Yadav, reached the spot.
