Cable operator to transmit or re-transmit programmes in any channel
NEW DELHI : The Ministry of Information and Broadcasting extends the date of its earlier order making it obligatory for every cable operate to transmit or re-transmit programmes of any channel in an encrypted form through a digital addressable system to December 31.
In a gazette notification issued on Friday K. Sanjay Murthy, a Joint Secretary Level Officer in the Ministry said that whereas, the Government of India in the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting vide number S.O. 2534(E), dated the 11th November, 2011 (herein after referred to as the said notification), made it obligatory for every cable operator to transmit or re-transmit programmes of any channel in an encrypted form through a digital addressable system in the cities /towns/areas with effect from the dates specified in column (4) of the table in the said notification;
It said, “Whereas, the Central Government vide number S.O. 2308 (E), dated the 11th September, 2014, extended the date specified in column (4) of the table of the said notification in respect of the cities/towns/areas mentioned against (i) Phase III from 30th September, 2014 to 31st December, 2015, and (ii) Phase-IV from 31st December, 2014 to 31st December, 2016;
“Whereas, the Central Government, on being satisfied that it is necessary so to do in the public interest, has decided to further extend the date specified in column (4) of the table in the said notification in respect of the cities/towns/areas mentioned against Phase-IV, from 31st December, 2016 to 31st March, 2017.
Now, therefore, in exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of the section 4A of the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995 (7 of 1995), the Central Government hereby makes the following further amendments in the said notification, namely; —
In the said notification, in the table, for the entry under column (4) occurring against Phase-IV, the entry “31st March, 2017” shall be substituted.
