Bengaluru schoolgirl shot dead by office attender
BANGLURU: Gauthami, 17, a PU student of the Pragati Residential School on the outskirts of Bengaluru, was shot dead at the school hostel by an attender of the school at 10 p.m. on Tuesday. Her roommate, Shirisha, was injured in the firing that occurred at Kadugodi.The accused, Mahesh (41), whose advances had been rejected by Gauthami, fled the scene and the police have launched a manhunt.
Mahesh fired four rounds from a country-made firearm. One hit Gauthami’s mouth and another her head, killing her on the spot.A bullet brushed past Shirisha’s left ear, causing injury. She was admitted to Manipal Hospital and is out of danger.
Gauthami, a science student, had just completed her PU examinations and was all set to return to her home. Initial reports suggest the victim hailed from Tumakuru district.Police officials have formed three teams to nab Mahesh. They are questioning the hostel warden as to how Mahesh was allowed entry.
The students were restricted from going out before investigations are over. Anxious parents gathered in front of the school to inquire about their wards.Though the school has CCTV cameras, only a security guard and a few attenders were present at the time of the incident.
