Know how Arvind Kejriwal’s cabinet will look like
NEW DELHI: After decimating two big national parties BJP and Congress in the high-voltage Delhi assembly elections, Chief Minister-designate Arvind Kejriwal is reportedly keen to have more experienced hands onboard to fast-track development and deliver the promises his party made to the voters here.
Sources claim that though Kejriwal is keen on having mature AAP members in his cabinet, he is also likely to induct some new faces as well in his government.
Top AAP leaders and former cabinet ministers – Manish Sisodia, Somnath Bharti, Rakhi Birla, Satyendra Jain, Girish Soni and Saurabh Bharadwaj – who have retained their seats with good margin this time are most likely to be part of the Kejriwal cabinet. However, some other sources claim that Rakhi Birla, Satyendra Jain and Girish Soni may be denied a berth in the Kejriwal cabinet this time.
Among the new ones, former Apple executive Adarsh Shastri is one of the strongest candidates who is likely to get a cabinet berth. He is expected to spearhead the implementation of AAP’s free Wi-Fi promise. It has been learnt that Kejriwal will bring technocrats on board to make up for the lack of experience of some of his MLAs. Speaking to reporters earlier, the AAP chief had said that he would need experts to execute some of his ambitious promises.
The inclination to appoint more technocrats stems from Kejriwal’s 49-days experience as Delhi CM last time.Kejriwal is scheduled to take oath as the chief minister of Delhi on February 14.
In one of the most stunning comebacks in Indian political history, the Aam Aadmi Party on Tuesday scored a landslide win in Delhi, delivering to the BJP its first electoral defeat since its historic Lok Sabha triumph and reducing the Congress, that had ruled the capital for 15 years till 2013, to a virtual non-entity.AAP won 67 out of 70 Assembly seats while BJP won the remaining three. Congress could not even open its account in these elections.
