Calcutta HC orders FIR against Trinamool MP Tapas Pal
KOLKATA: The Calcutta High Court on Thursday ordered filing of an FIR against Trinamool Congress MP Tapas Pal and a CID probe over his controversial remarks against women.
Rejecting the appeals by Paul and the state government, Justice Nishita Mhatre upheld the single bench of Justice Dipankar Datta’s order, directing a CID probe against the actor-turned-politician for publicly exhorting his party workers to kill CPI-M activists and unleash his boys to rape their women.
Pal was caught on tape exhorting his party workers to kill CPI-M activists even as he himself asserted that he would gun down his rivals and let loose his “boys” to rape CPI-M women.Pal represents Krishnanagar constituency in Nadia district of West Bengal.
Notwithstanding the countrywide clamour for Paul`s arrest and expulsion from Parliament, the Trinamool Congtress-led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee had sought to end the matter with an apology which he tendered to his party and the media.Pal, whose controversial remarks against women had sparked an outrage, on July 1 tendered an unconditional apology to his party saying that in making such comments he had let down his constituency and the people of Bengal.
“Some remarks made by me in the heat and dust of the election campaign (2014 Low Sabha polls) have caused dismay and consternation. I apologise unreservedly for them,” Pal said in a written apology after a huge controversy broke out following airing of the video of his outburst at public meetings in his constituency.
