“Hamari Yaad Aayegi ” Actress Tanuja admitted in Mumbai hospital
MUMBAI: Veteran Bollywood actress Tanuja mother of popular star Kajol was admitted to a Mumbai hospital on Sunday evening due to age-related issues. Tanuja, 80 years old, was admitted in the ICU of a Juhu hospital, the report said. “She is under observation. She is doing well. There’s nothing to worry about,” the report added.
Tanuja is known for her noteworthy performances in popular films like ‘Jewel Thief’, ‘Haathi Mere Saathi’, ‘Baharein Phir Bhi Ayengi’, ‘Mere Jeevan Sathi’ among others. She is known to be the sister of well-known actress Nutan and the mother of Kajol. Apart from Hindi cinema, Tanuja is known for her work in Bengali films as well. Notably, she turned 80 in September when Kajol and Ajay Devgn had posted birthday wishes for her on social media. Sharing a special video of her mother, the ‘Lust Stories 2’ actress wrote ‘Eight decades of love, wisdom, and laughter! Happy Birthday to my incredible Mom!’
Tanuja Samarth, popularly known as Tanuja, has worked in several Hindi and Bengali films. She is the daughter of filmmaker Kumarsen Samarth and actress Shobhna Samarth. She has three sisters, including actress Nutan and one brother. Tanuja married filmmaker Shomu Mukherjee in 1973, and has two daughters, actresses Kajol and Tanisha.
Tanuja started her film career with her older sister Nutan in Hamari Beti (1950) as Baby Tanuja. Ten years later, she was cast in the film Chhabili (1960) which was directed by her mother, and had her sister Nutan, in the lead. In 1961 famous director Kidar Sharma signed Tanuja for Hamari Yaad Aayegi as lead actress.
In mid-1960s, she started a parallel career in Bengali cinema in Kolkata. In Deya Neya (1963) she was paired opposite Uttam Kumar. Anthony-Firingee (1967), Rajkumari (1970), Teen Bhuvaner Parey (1969) and Prothom Kadam Phool were her other Bengali movies.
In 1967, Tanuja received her first nomination for the Film fare Award for Best Supporting Actress for her performance in the spy film Jewel Thief. In 1969, she was awarded the Filmfare Award for Best Supporting Actress for Paisa Ya Pyaar. Tanuja is known for her roles in films such as “Baharein Phir Bhi Ayengi”, “Jewel Thief”, “Haathi Mere Saathi” and “Mere Jeevan Sathi”.
