Manish Sisodia admitted to LNJP with corona virus, diagnosed with dengue
NEW DELHI : Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia, who tested positive for COVID-19 last week, was admitted to a hospital in the national capital on Wednesday after he complained of fever.
A day ago after earlier having tested positive for the coronavirus, also has dengue, officials said on Thursday.
Mr Sisodia, who was admitted to the city’s Lok Nayak Jayaprakash Hospital with fever and complaints of breathing difficulties, has falling levels of blood platelets, doctors said.
He had been under self-isolation at his official residence since testing positive for the highly contagious disease on September 14. Patients who do not have co-morbidities or complications and do not belong to the vulnerable age group are advised home quarantine.
On September 14, the 48-year-old AAP Leader had tweeted to announce his positive status and warn those who came in contact with him. “After suffering from mild fever, I took a coronavirus test and turned out to be positive.
I have isolated myself. I don’t have a fever or any other problem as of now, I am absolutely fine. With your prayers, I am sure I will return to work after regaining my health,” he tweeted in Hindi.
Sisodia was the second minister in the Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government in Delhi, who has tested positive for the novel coronavirus. Earlier in June, Delhi’s Health Minister Satyendra Jain had tested positive for COVID-19 and later recovered.
Meanwhile, Sudden spike in COVID cases in Delhi
There has been a fluctuation in the number of coronavirus cases in the national capital since the beginning of this month.
The national capital’s COVID-19 case count rose to over 2.53 lakh on Tuesday with 3,816 more people testing positive for the viral disease, while 37 fresh fatalities pushed the death toll to 5,051, according to the Delhi health department bulletin.
Earlier this month, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had announced that COVID-19 tests in Delhi will be doubled to 40,000 per day as there has been a marginal increase in the number of COVID-19 cases in the city.
More COVID-19 tests in Delhi than in any other part of the world. Last week, Kejriwal had said that the national capital is conducting the highest number of COVID-19 tests in the whole world.
“The largest number of COVID-19 tests are being carried out in Delhi at present. Eleven per cent Delhi has been tested so far with nearly 21 lakh tests. The concern should be number of deaths not the number of COVID cases. Death rate in Delhi is perhaps the lowest in the whole world,” the chief minister said in his address during the one-day session of the Delhi Assembly last Monday.
The 48-year-old, along with other ministers, had been actively involved in Delhi’s fight against the pandemic, addressing virtual press briefings, inspecting Covid facilities and overseeing the management of the disease.
With 3,834 new coronavirus cases, Delhi’s infection tally crossed 2.6 lakh on Thursday, while the number of deaths climbed to 5,123, authorities said. Thirty-six deaths due to COVID-19 were recorded in the last 24 hours.
