Selfie At Waterfall Turns Fatal For AP Girl In US
HYDERABAD: A young woman from Andhra Pradesh drowned in the US after she accidentally slipped and fell into a waterfall while taking a selfie with her fiance, her family said on Monday.
The deceased was identified as Polavarapu Kamala, the daughter of Polavarapu Lakshman Rao and Aruna. She hailed from Gudlavalleru of Krishna district in Andhra Pradesh. After her graduation in Gudlavalleru, she went to the US and had completed her MS. She was working with a software company.
On Saturday, Kamala had gone to her relatives’ house and while returning, she went to Bald River Falls. She accidentally slipped and fell into the waterfalls. A rescue team recovered her body and rushed it to a hospital, where she was declared brought dead.
The family members of the deceased are trying to bring her body to India with the help of NATS. A pall of gloom has descended on her native village in Krishna district on hearing the news of Kamala’s death.
According to media reports Polavarapu Kamala and her fiance had made a stop at the Bald River Falls in Tennessee on their way back home after a visit to her relatives in Atlanta. The couple were taking a selfie at the waterfall when they both reportedly slipped and fell.
While her boyfriend was rescued by people at the site, Kamala was missing for some time. She was reportedly found lying unconscious near a log. Rescuers performed prolonged CPR on her but could not revive her.
Kamala, who was from Gudlavaleru in Krishna district, had gone to the US after completing her graduation. She worked with a software company in Ohio. “She graduated with an engineering degree and went for further studies to the US. She even found a job,” her mother said.
Efforts are now being made to bring back the body to India. “The Telugu Association has said they will help bring the body home,” her father said. Kamala’s younger sister is married and lives in Chennai.
