NEW DELHI : On March 28, PM Modi announced the CARES fund requesting for donations to fight the coronavirus war. Akshay Kumar, who has been vocal about Covid-19, is one of the first actors to pitch in and donate a sum of Rs 25 crore to the PM-CARES fund.
He announced the same on his Twitter page and wrote, “This is that time when all that matters is the lives of our people. And we need to do anything and everything it takes. I pledge to contribute Rs 25 crores from my savings to @narendramodi ji’s PM-CARES Fund. Let’s save lives, Jaan hai toh jahaan hai. (sic).”
He further added that the PM-CARES fund will accept micro-donations. “Let us leave no stone unturned to make India healthier and more prosperous for our future generations,” PM Modi said.
Akshay Kumar has been quite active on Twitter requesting people to stay indoors and practise social-distancing to curb the further spread of Covid-19. A few days ago, he also put out a video on his Instagram profile, in which he blasted the violators who failed to adhere to the rules of the lockdown.
Meanwhile, India and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) batsman Suresh Raina has donated Rs 31 lakh to PM-CARES Fund on Saturday (March 28) to fight the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic. On Saturday, PM Modi announced that PM-CARES Fund was set up. “It is my appeal to my fellow Indians, Kindly contribute to the PM-CARES Fund. This Fund will also cater to similar distressing situations, if they occur in the times ahead.
Raina took to the micro-blogging website Twitter to announce that he will donate Rs 31 lakh to PM-CARES Fund and Rs 21 lakh to Uttar Pradesh chief minister’s disaster relief fund. In total, he has pledged Rs 52 lalakh to help India combat coronavirus.
The fund has been set up so that the people who want to contribute can do so by following a few simple steps which will help the government tide over the major COVID-19 hurdle. While the Prime Minister is the Chairman of this trust, its members include Defence Minister, Home Minister and Finance Minister.
The pandemic of COVID-19 has engulfed the entire world and has posed serious challenges for the health and economic security of millions of people worldwide. In India too, the spread of coronavirus has been alarming and is posing severe health and economic ramifications for our country.
Keeping in mind the need for having a dedicated national fund with the primary objective of dealing with any kind of emergency or distress situation, like posed by the COVID-19 pandemic, and to provide relief to the affected, the fund has been started.
This fund will enable micro-donations as a result of which a large number of people will be able to contribute with the smallest of denominations. Citizens and organisations can go to the website pmindia.gov.in and donate to PM CARES Fund using the following details:
