‘Rajnigandha’ Veteran Actress Vidya Sinha dies at 71
MUMBAI : Veteran actress Vidya Sinha, best known for her films such as ‘Chhoti Si Baat’, ‘Rajnigandha’ and ‘Pati Patni Aur Woh’, died at a hospital in Mumbai on Thursday. She was 71.
News agency ANI reported that she was admitted to a hospital in Juhu six days ago with heart and lung complications and was put on a ventilator.
Vidya Sinha had starred in films such as ‘Rajnigandha’ (her debut), ‘Chhoti Se Baat’, ‘Pati Patni Aur Woh’ and ‘Safed Jhoot’. Her last Bollywood project was 2011’s ‘Bodyguard’. She had also been part of several TV shows – ‘Kkavyanjali’, ‘Qubool Hai’ and ‘Kullfi Kumarr Bajewala’ – to name a few.
Her personal life had been troublesome. She first married her neighbour Venkateshwaran Iyer in 1968 and the couple adopted a daughter named Jhanvi in 1989. However, her husband died in 1996. Later, she married Netaji Bhimrao Salunke, but in 2009, Vidya filed a police complaint accusing him of domestic violence. They got divorced soon.
The actress’ family said that she died around 1 pm after suffering from a brief lung-cum-heart ailment .Vidya Sinha was best-known for featuring in Basu Chatterjee’s 1974 film Rajnigandha, co-starring Amol Palekar.
According to news agency , Ms Sinha was admitted to a Mumbai hospital on Sunday after she suffered from severe breathing problems. Ms Sinha was put on a ventilator but failed to recover and died around 1 pm, reported IANS.
Vidya Sinha stepped into the Indian entertainment industry at the age if 18. She began her career as a model. Other than films, Ms Sinha also featured in several television shows. She was a part of TV shows such as Kulfi Kumar Bajewala, Qubool Hai and Ekta Kapoor’s Kavyanjali among others.
After the 1986 film Jeeva, Ms Sinha took a brief break from films. She returned to the silver screen in 2011 with Salman Khan’s Bodyguard. Vidya Sinha is survived by her daughter Jhanvi.
