NGO Worker Anamika Mazumdar becomes the first crorepati of KBC
MUMBAI : Anamika Majumdar, a housewife and NGO worker from Jharkhand has become the first one-crore winner of the ninth season of actor Amitabh Bachchan’s TV show, Kaun Banega Crorepati. A music lover, Anamika belongs to Jamshedpur and is married with two kids.
Faith in India NGO, which is run by her is dedicated towards uplifting women in Jharkhand, especially in the rural areas for the last three years.41-year-old homemaker adds she will dedicate most of the winning amount to her NGO, Faith in India, which works towards the upliftment of women and impoverished children in Jharkhand.
After she had won Rs1 crore, the 41-year-old was given the option to play the jackpot question for a chance to Rs 7 crore, but she decided to not take that risk. “After I won Rs 50 lakh, I was taking a lot of time on every answer and I knew I wouldn’t get such a chance again. All my lifelines were over and I didn’t want to lose after reaching that point. I was confused in the final question, but the final decision of 2-3 seconds changed my life,” says Majumdar.
“I am going to spend most of the money on my NGO. I want to do some constructive work. Mr Bachchan also asked me to invest the winning amount tactfully. I will follow his advice.” Talking about her social work, she says that the organisation tries to provide a better chance at life through education. She adds, “We try to minimise their problems as much as we can.”
Majumdar says despite exhausting all the four lifelines, she was hopeful that she would become a millionaire. “When I had won Rs 50 lakh I was a bit hopeful that if the question is somewhat easy, there are chances of me becoming a crorepati. When I got the question I was thinking about the answer…
“(When) I saw the options I was almost sure about the right answer. Although the question was not difficult, the options were confusing. But I got it right,” she says. The episode will air tonight on Sony Entertainment Television channel.
The host of the show is none other than Megastar Amitabh Bachchan. This is the 9th season of the reality show. The season introduced a 16 question format, where the first 10 questions are timed (45 seconds for the first five questions and 60 seconds for the following five questions). In order to play the 16th question, the contestant must give up all remaining lifelines and the right to walk away after answering the 10th question correctly.
The 50:50 lifeline replaced Double Dip and the Three Wise Men lifeline was replaced by the Plus One (from the United States version). Phone-a-Friend (now sponsored by Jio) introduced video calls. After the show started airing, there have been speculations about the registrations for the 9th season beginning again, given the fact that 19.8 million entries were received ever since the show was announced by Sony in 2017.(With Agency Inputs ).
