Mamata Ignores price rise issue for political comfort
KOLKATA: Winning the poll wasn’t enough as a misfortune would have it for opposition parties in West Bengal and Mamata keeps floating with political advantage!
It came with Left still not settled up with organizational problems thrown up by pro-alliance lobby and state Congress bitten by Delhi bug of relaxing with electoral defeats, everywhere, politically leave her sitting on advantage Mamata.
“It’s getting difficult for us to launch a campaign even on as sensitive as price rise,’’ said a Congress leader in the campaign against inflation without Left presence as it was expected.
A bitter Congress leader said “while Modi’s reform-driven policy is responsible for the present situation, but West Bengal Government cannot escape its share of blame either.’’
He said it’s unfortunate the Bengalees do not have much interest in economics thus they came up with poor response, he added. However, CPI(M) now planning to come up with a campaign against price rise, didn’t join Congress rally due to party’s Central Committee and Front partners pressure.
But things remain alliance isn’t working, said a CPI(M) leader, adding, “if you remember, it was UPA-II’s economic reform fallout that food inflation began its journey and Modi is trying to take it further.’’
Interestingly, Mamata didn’t react to price rise issue in a manner which says she is worried. Her first meeting with ministers and officials ended her bit and nothing more.
But then people – voters State Government employees, state government servants, and large number of school teachers- are also responsible for Mamata Banerjee’s indifference,’’ feel Calcutta University professor of economics.
