Hope BJP-PDP Members Will Say ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’, : Omar Abdullah
SRINAGAR: Taking a dig at the PDP and the BJP which will together form the government tomorrow in Srinagar after a gap of nearly three months, Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today said he expects all members of the PDP-BJP alliance to chant ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ as soon as the government takes oath of office.
“I look forward to seeing all the members of the PDP-BJP alliance say this as soon as they take their oath tomorrow,” Mr Abdullah tweeted. The tweet quoted the remarks by Maharashtra’s Chief Minister and BJP leader Devendra Fadnavis that those who do not chant ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ have no right to live in the country.
None of Mehbooba Mufti’s conditions were fulfilled by the BJP, Mr Abdullah told to a tv channel a day ahead of her taking over as the state’s first woman chief minister. “Mehbooba is the chief minister because she is the daughter of Mufti Sayeed. She is not there because she is a woman. It is an inherited position. I’m in the same position.
That’s a reality we can’t escape from,” the former chief minister told NDTV. Mr Abdullah’s father is a former chief minister and union minister.
Quoting BJP leader Ram Madhav, Mr Abdullah said Ms Mufti “sought nothing from the prime minister and received nothing.” Ms Mufti had kept the BJP waiting for weeks after her father and former chief minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed’s death on January 7
“I bear no personal animosity towards Mehbooba as I bore non toward her father,” the National Conference leader said. “It is clear that Mehbooba has faced and continues to face tremendous dissension. It’s true that majority of her party legislators were in favour of government formation with or without her… I’m curious to know what happens tomorrow,” he said.
Mr Abdullah said Ms Mufti assumes office “in a significantly weaker position than her father did.”
