This Winter Session may see lesser paper in Parliament.
NEW DELHI: Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan announced steps taking the House closer to the goal of a paperless Parliament. At an all-party convened by her, Mahajan launched a refurbished version of the Lok Sabha website and said unstarred questions, bulletin-I, private members bills and annual reports would be made available online and not be given to every member in hard copy form.
While most members favoured the move, some said it should be implemented gradually as not all members were comfortable with accessing online.
Mahajan has set the target of a paperless Parliament as one of her priorities and was trying to evolve a consensus among members of Parliament on giving up paper and going online. As of now, questions are written or typed and sent to the table office and chosen through a lottery.
With the last session being a washout, Mahajan has asked members to ensure “maximum decorum” to ensure “maximum debate”While Prime Minister Narendra Modi attended the dinner later, among those present in the meeting were Mallikarjun Kharge, leader of Congress in the Lok Sabha, Shiv Sena’s Anandrao Adsul, E Ahmed of the Muslim League and Sudip Bandopadhyay of the TMC were among others present for the meeting.
