Sunanda Tharoor’s autopsy to be filmed
NEW DELHI : Sunanda Pushkar Tharoor’s body has this morning been taken to the All India Institute of Medical Sciences or AIIMS, where three senior doctors will conduct an autopsy to ascertain the cause of death. The procedure will be filmed, a doctor said.
Mrs Tharoor was found dead in a hotel room on Friday evening by her husband, union minister Shashi Tharoor. Hours later, Mr Tharoor complained of a pain in his chest and was admitted to AIIMS. He is being discharged now.
Sunanda Tharoor’s son and other members of her family were at AIIMS this morning.
An inquiry by a sub divisional magistrate or SDM has been initiated into Mrs Tharoor’s death; the official recorded Shashi Tharoor’s statement before the minister was taken to hospital at about 3 am.
The police have not ruled out suicide, though they have not as yet found a suicide note, they said.
Soon after Mrs Tharoor’s death was reported by the minster’s assistant, the police sealed the third floor of the hotel where the suite is located and checked CCTV footage. They have seized Mrs Tharoor’s iPhone and iPad for investigation and details of her phone calls and Twitter account are reportedly being checked.
Mrs Tharoor had reportedly ordered lunch at about 3.30 pm on Friday. The police have questioned the hotel staff and also the Tharoor’s domestic help, who was at the hotel.
The Tharoors were staying at the hotel as their house was being painted, Mr Tharoor’s assistant said. At about 8.30 pm on Friday, Mr Tharoor returned to the hotel after spending the day at a mega-conclave organised by his party, the Congress. When Mrs Tharoor did not open the door to her bedroom in suite number 345, the minster asked the hotel staff to help him enter the room. He found her on the bed lying dead.
Two days before her death Sunanda Tharoor, 52, had said she was deeply disturbed by an alleged affair her husband was having with a Pakistani journalist.
The two were married in 2010, the third marriage for both. Mrs Tharoor has a 21-year-old son from her second marriage.
