Probe shelved as controversy surrounds Modi’s involvement:Anjan
NEW DELHI : Communist Party of India (CPI) leader Atul Anjan on Monday indicated that the probe into Snoopgate will see a quite end, as the controversy involves Prime Minister Narendra Modi himself.
“The efforts to stop Snoopgate probe is because somewhere the prime minister is surrounded in it .Many state police were used just to encroach upon the privacy of a woman. How can those agencies who were made to track this case, will enquire against a person who is now the prime minister. His one indication is enough to dissuade the probe agencies not to step ahead,” Anjan said.
The previous UPA Government’s controversial move to order a probe into the ‘Snoopgate’ controversy may see a quiet burial with the home ministry reportedly expected to move the Union Cabinet soon to abandon the plan.Media reports say that a note will be presented before the Union Cabinet to scrap the December 26, 2013, order to set up a judicial commission of inquiry to probe the charges of surveillance of a young woman in 2009 in Gujarat.
The UPA Government’s decision to set up the inquiry triggered a political row as the ‘Snoopgate’ affair was alleged to have involved Narendra Modi when he was the Gujarat chief minister.
