World Bank to provide over one billion dollars for India’s solar-energy program
NEW DELHI: The World Bank Group on Thursday signed an agreement with the International Solar Alliance, consisting of 121 countries led by India, with the goal of mobilizing one trillion dollar in investments by 2030.
The agreement was signed in the presence of Finance Minister Arun Jaitley and Power Minister Piyush Goyal in New Delhi. The Bank announced support of more than one billion dollar in support for India’s solar-energy program.
The World Bank-supported projects under preparation include solar rooftop technology, infrastructure for solar parks, bringing innovative solar and hybrid technologies to market and transmission lines for solar-rich states.
Talking to reporters, President of World Bank Group Jim Yong Kim said, the Bank today signed 625 million dollar agreement with Indian government for grid connected roof top programme.
He said, India’s inflation rate is down and the growth is extremely strong and under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the country has done economically well.
Speaking on the occasion, Finance Minister Arun jaitley said, there is pipeline of projects in India, which need a lot of finances and World Bank is fore front in assisting these programme.
