Wipro Faces Rs 10 Crore Sexual Discrimination Suit by Former Staffer: Report
A former Wipro employee has filed £1million (nearly Rs 10 crore) lawsuit against the IT major in London, according to The Telegraph newspaper.
India-born Shreya Ukil has filed charges of sexual discrimination and a claim over equal pay, the newspaper reported. 39-year-old Ms Ukil is also claiming harassment and unfair dismissal, according to the report.
The atmosphere for women employees at Wipro was “toxic”, Ms Ukil was quoted as saying by the newspaper in an employment tribunal on Tuesday.”The culture within Wipro requires women to be subservient,” she reportedly said.
In a statement to The Telegraph, the company said, “Wipro does not comment on its ongoing lawsuits and Wipro is committed to the principle of equal employment opportunity and provides all our employees with a work environment that is free from discrimination and harassment of any kind.”
Wipro is India’s third largest outsourcer with $8 billion in annual revenue. The Bangalore-based company employs over 1.50 lakh people globally.
