Vyapam scam: Ram Naresh Yadav quits as MP Governor
NEW DELHI: In a significant political development, Madhya Pradesh Governor Ram Naresh Yadav, who has come under the scanner over his alleged involvement in the Vyapam scam, on Wednesday tendered his resignation. According to sources, Yadav has sent his resignation papers to the Ministry of Home Affairs, which is most likely to accept it.
The Madhya Pradesh Governor was under pressure to quit and was reportedly asked by the MHA to resign after he was named in an FIR in connection with the multi-crore exam scam involving politicians and government officials.Yadav, who has been governor since 2011, has been accused of taking money from candidates applying for the position of Forest Guards in 2013. He has been booked for corruption, misuse of his official position and cheating. 70 others have also been named in the case.
According to legal experts, the Special Task Force, which booked the Governor, needs presidential sanction to chargesheet him. His son Shailesh Yadav’s involvement is also being examined by the Special Task Force set up to investigate the case.
The alleged scam involves the Madhya Pradesh Professional Examination Board or Vyapam, which holds exams for positions like medical officers, constables, teachers and auditors for government departments. Candidates allegedly bribed government officials to make it to the list of those who cleared the test, without taking the exam.
Congress leader Digvijay Singh had submitted a pen drive containing a spreadsheet and some phone numbers to the Special Investigation Team (SIT) in the Professional Examination Board scam.
