Stop Privatisation, Save Govt Jobs: Rahul Gandhi

Rahul-7NEW DELHI : Former congress Rahul Gandhi on Monday hit out at BJP-led Modi government alleging privatisation of Public Sector Undertakings (PSU) is linked to unemployment in the country.
In a continuation of his attacks, Gandhi is releasing videos on “how the Modi government has destroyed the Indian economy”.He attacked the government over a media report which claimed that unemployment rate has gone up in August as rural jobs dipped.
“Today, the country is facing many disasters like the Modi government, one of which is unnecessary privatization.
The youth want jobs but the Modi government is destroying employment and deposit capital by privatizing PSUs. For whom benefit? Just for the development of few ‘friends’ who are Modi ji’s special. Stop Privatisation Save Govt Jobs,” Gandhi tweeted.
Mr Gandhi, who has stepped up his criticism after data last week showed that India’s GDP has contracted by a record 23.9 per cent between April and June, reiterated his belief that unemployment levels were linked to the Modi government’s drive to privatise PSUs (public sector units).
In a tweet in Hindi, Rahul Gandhi appealed to the Narendra Modi government for “employment, reinstatement, results of exams”. “Provide solutions to the problems being faced by the youth of the country,” he tweeted.
Citing a UN report, he said it shows a rapid rise in poverty among women. He also claimed that according to the International Labour Organization (ILO), 40 crore Indians are being pushed below the poverty line.
“The Modi government’s thinking is minimum government, maximum privatisation. Covid is just an excuse…,” he tweeted, alleging that the “plan is to free government offices of all permanent staff, steal the youth’s future and propel his (PM Modi’s) own friends forward”.
Meanwhile,Congress general secretary Priyanka Gandhi Vadra also slammed the government over the alleged rise in unemployment and privatisation. She raised the issue of Staff Selection Commission Combined Graduate Level Exams allegedly being in a state of limbo.
“2017- No appointments till now under SSC CGL. 2018 – Even results are not out of the CGL exam. 2019 – CGL exam was not held. 2020 SSC CGL – No vacancies taken out,” Priyanka Gandhi said in a tweet in Hindi.“If vacancies come out, then no exams. If exams take place, then no results. If results come out, then no recruitment,” she said.
“The future of the youth is being ruined by private sector layoffs and a halt on government recruitment, but the government is serving lies in advertisements and speeches to hide the truth,” Priyanka Gandhi tweeted with the hashtag ‘stop privatization’..
The centre subsequently clarified its position; the Ministry of Finance tweeted that the government circular referred to in the report dealt with internal procedure and would not affect or curtail recruitment.
