Salman Khan’s Jai Ho makes Rs 100 crores but nobody’s excited
MUMBAI : Salman Khan’s latest offering Jai Ho has collected Rs 100 crores worldwide after releasing on January 24. Trade analyst Taran Adarsh tweeted: #JaiHo opng wknd: India *nett* Rs 60.68 cr, *gross* Rs 78.90 cr. Overseas *gross* Rs 22.38 cr. Worldwide total [gross]: Rs101.28 cr.
However, here’s why the pundits aren’t expecting this to set the box office office on fire unlike Salman’s previous blockbusters which include Ek Tha Tiger, Bodyguard and the Dabangg films. Jai Ho collected just over Rs 17 crores on it’s opening day – a figure that compares badly with the opening day collections of his other films.
“When Ek Tha Tiger released in 2012, it collected around Rs 30 crore on its opening day,” analyst Rajesh Thadani .
2013 was packed with record-breaking blockbusters with first Shah Rukh Khan’s Chennai Express and Hrithik Roshan’s Krrish 3 breaking Aamir Khan’s 3 Idiots record to become the highest-earning Bollywood film, and then Aamir reclaiming his own record with Dhoom: 3.
Salman’s Jai Ho, made at a budget of Rs 75 crores, isn’t expected to match these records.Jai Ho is directed by Salman’s brother Sohail and stars debutante Daisy Shah as well as veterans Tabu and Danny Denzongpa.
