Rahul Gandhi’s election leaves Bengal Congress cold, unmoved
KOLKATA :Even as Nehru family descendant, Rahul Gandhi elected party president and would be officially anointed soon, his election didn’t leave Bengal party inspired as expected. Rather it left party members only cold.
Speaking to this reporter a top state Congress leader said:Everybody knew about it so what’s new there to react?’’All we do not know, if this is going to revive the party in Bengal and help regain its place,’’ unmoved he said.
Incidentally, the Congress in Bengal which learned to play the second fiddle for decades now either as Left’s or Trinamool Congress’ electoral friend, neither has a leader nor enough organizational strength to carry the political burden.
There’s everyone to carry your burden of success – though it would be burdensome – but there’s none who can carry the burden of a miscalculated political alliance,’’ said another senior State Congress leader.
Asked if party wins in Gujarat would they believe that Congress’ dynasty thesis would politically pay? All we know it would be a great feat after a long time, but moot point would be how to ensure our political stability in Bengal. They need to find out an answer,’’ he added.
Interestingly, the some of the top state Congress leaders pointed to open talks about rule of dynasty, which at the end lowered party’s prestige nationally. “You can go into tweets there were quite a disturbing few. They don’t add to party’s image nor contribution to party democracy,’’ a Congress leader added.
We have been missing since 2008 Priya Ranjan Dasmunshi, and now we missed him for good,’’ he added.
