Rahul Gandhi meets victims of Una incident, slams Narendra Modi govt.

rahulgandhi-1469090404RAJKOT: After Gujarat Chief Minister, Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi on Thursdaysday visited the families of victims of cow vigilantism in Una and the victims in Rajkot Civil Hospital. Rahul Gandhi had landed in Gujarat following an invitation from the state unit, after the incident assumed political colour and grabbed eyeballs across the country.
Gandhi had landed in Diu airport and proceeded to Una along with senior leaders of the state unit and Congress Gujarat Incharg Gurudas Kamat, where he met the families of the victims. Later he rushed to Rajkot to meet the victims in Rajkot Civil Hospital. Earlier in the day, NCP heavyweight Praful Patel had also landed in Una to visit the victims.
It may be mentioned here that the leader of opposition SHankarsinh Vaghela in his statement on Tuesday had said that the state leadership would request Rahul Gandhi to visit the victims and successively the visit was announced.

The issue has assumed significant political significance and parties across the spectrum are making a beeline to reap maximum dividend from the same. Aam Admi Party (AAP) convenor Arvind Kejriwal is also scheduled to visit Gujart on Friday.
As a matter of fact, Kejriwal’s decision too was announced on Tuesday evening after the issue caught momentum and attracted national attention. Meanwhile the Dalit Community has been on the war path in the street and by far more than 20 attempts of suicide have been reported from all over Gujarat. demonstrations continued even on Wednesday with reports of sporadic violence. It may be mentioned here that a Police Constable was killed in a skirmish between the protestors and the police in Amreli on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, BJP has termed Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Gujarat to meet the Una incident victims’ family as political stunt. Briefing reporters in New Delhi today, senior party leader and Information and Broadcasting Minister M Venkaiah Naidu took a dig at Mr. Gandhi, saying that at a time when Parliament is debating the issue, he should have been there. Mr. Naidu wondered, why he did not visit Kerala and other places where dalit atrocities took place in recent past.
Mr Naidu said, state government has taken prompt action against the people behind the ghastly crime in which some dalits were thrashed over the allegation of killing of cow. He accused the Congress and the BSP of politicizing the issue. The Minister said the BJP and the NDA government are committed for the social cohesion and will take every step in this direction.
