Priyanka Gandhi enters Parliament as the tenth member of the Gandhi-Nehru family
NEWDELHI: Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi has taken oath as a Member of Parliament today. When Priyanka Gandhi was taking the oath of office and secrecy, her brother Rahul and mother Sonia were also present there as MPs.
During this, her son and daughter Rehan Vadra and Miraya Vadra reached Parliament. Congress leader Sonia Gandhi said, “I am very happy.” Priyanka reached the Parliament House with her mother Sonia Gandhi.
As soon as Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla called Priyanka Gandhi’s name, she reached with the Constitution book in her hand and took the oath. She was wearing a traditional Kerala saree “Kasavu”. It is customary to wear such sarees on auspicious occasions in South India, especially Kerala.
She is now the third member of the Gandhi family in Parliament; her mother Sonia Gandhi is the party’s Rajya Sabha MP from Rajasthan. She said, “I am very happy today” and when she took the oath, she was welcomed with loud cheers and slogans of ‘Bharat Jodo’.

As soon as the Speaker of the Opposition Om Birla called Priyanka Gandhi’s name, she went with the Constitution book in her hand and took the oath. In this way, from today, three members of the Gandhi family will be seen in the Parliament. However, as the Nehru-Gandhi family, she is the tenth member of the Lok Sabha. Priyanka filed her nomination with folded hands on behalf of the leaders sitting in the first row. The leaders of the opposition in the House and her brother Rahul Gandhi also accepted their support with folded hands. After taking the oath, she sat in the fourth row. While the leader of the opposition Rahul Gandhi was sitting in the first row.
Priyanka Gandhi Vadra’s entry into the Lok Sabha was not just a political moment, but a scene full of symbolism. Dressed in a Kerala Kasavu saree, Priyanka’s outfit reminded many of a young Indira Gandhi, who was often seen in similar traditional sarees during her tenure in Parliament. Priyanka Gandhi’s choice of traditional attire as she stood to take oath as MP from Wayanad on Thursday had a very deep meaning. The Kasavu saree is not just an outfit; it symbolises the cultural unity of Kerala. Priyanka Gandhi’s decision to wear it during the swearing-in ceremony was also seen as a tribute to the people of Wayanad who have chosen her as their representative.
Priyanka Gandhi’s resemblance to Indira Gandhi was uncanny. Many noticed how Priyanka Gandhi’s look brought back memories of her grandmother and three-time Prime Minister Indira Gandhi. Indira Gandhi used her attire to connect with the common people. Priyanka Gandhi’s choice of saree also echoed the same sentiment. When asked if she remembered her grandmother during the swearing-in ceremony, Priyanka replied, “Yes, I remembered her, and I also remembered my father.
” Priyanka Gandhi won the Wayanad Lok Sabha seat by defeating Satyan Mokery of the Congress Party (CPI) by a margin of 4,10,931 votes. In Wayanad, a Congress bastion, Priyanka Gandhi faced a triangular contest between her, Navya Haridas of the BJP and Satyan Mokery of the CPI. The Wayanad seat was vacated by her brother Rahul Gandhi, who earlier represented Wayanad but moved to Rae Bareli in Uttar Pradesh after being elected to the Lok Sabha from both seats in this year’s Lok Sabha elections.
