Political parties is required to increase the number of women legislators: Prez. Mukherjee
The President Pranab Mukherjee said empowerment of women in the country cannot be completely ensured until their participation is increased in every field. He said there are 1.27 million representations of women in Local Bodies and Panchayats in the country and they are doing satisfactory job.
Addressing a two-day National Conference on Women Legislators here, the President said that6 empowerment of women in the country couldn’t be completely ensured until their participation is increased in every field. The President added that the global community has to rededicate themselves for women empowerment.
Need for passage of Constitution Amendment Bill in the Lok Sabha which provides 33 per cent reservation for women in Parliament. He said, commitment of political parties is required to increase the number of women legislators in Parliament as well as in the State Assemblies.
He also appreciated the Prime Minister Narendra Modi for implementation Beti Bachao Beti Padhao scheme in the country terming it a good initiative towards women empowerment.Speaker of Bangladesh Shirin Chaudhary is also attending the conference and is the Chairperson of the Plenary Session.
Stating that there is a need to increase the representation of women as legislators, President Pranab Mukherjee on Saturday said that political parties must be committed to increase the number of women legislators in Parliament as well as State Assemblies.

The conference will equip the women legislators from across India with latest knowledge in relevant areas and provide them with the right perspective, motivation and guidance in their roles as legislators and powerful agents of socio-economic progress and change as well as good governance.
It will update them about current national and international issues that are relevant to their field of work.
