PM Narendra Modi Scored 62.3% In MA in Pol Science
NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi completed his post-graduation in Political Science from the Gujarat University with a 62.3% score, Vice Chancellor MN Patel has said amid a row over Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal accusing the Central Information Commission of covering up the PM’s educational qualifications.
Earlier this week, Mr Kejriwal had demanded that this information be made public by the CIC.
The Vice Chancellor has however told to a tv Channel that the university hasn’t been approached by anyone seeking this information yet. He also added that the university had earlier turned down the request since rules allowed only individual candidates to seek details of their marks.
“For instance X cannot seek details of Y and that is why we had turned down the RTI request. Now that the CIC has issued an order, we will provide details if asked to,” he said.
In his letter to Information Commissioner M Sridhar Acharyulu, Mr Kejriwal had claimed that “there are allegations that Narendra Modi does not have any degree. The people of the country want to know the truth. Despite that you have refused to make records regarding his degree public. Why did you do this? This is wrong.”
After his letter, the Information Commission, which recently rejected a similar query, asked the PMO for details like the PM’s roll number. In response, Mr Kejriwal tweeted: “We welcome CIC decision. All speculations wud be put to rest now.”
While contesting the 2014 national election, PM Modi had declared that he has a BA degree from the Delhi University and a Master’s from the Gujarat University.To an RTI petition on the PM’s degrees earlier this month, the Delhi University said it didn’t have details like his roll number needed to track down such information. Another similar query by a Delhi resident was also denied, partly on grounds of national security.
Last month, acting on an RTI query on Mr Kejriwal, the Information Commission had asked the Chief Minister whether he had any objections to his details being made public.
“You want everything about me out in the public domain, to which I have no objections. But I am amazed that you want to hide information on Narendra Modi’s degree. It raises the suspicion of people – is the commission really impartial?” Mr Kejriwal wrote in his letter.
