PM Modi meets senior ministers to review C-19 response

PM-136NEW DELHI :Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday held a detailed meeting with senior ministers and officials to review India’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic. The meeting reviewed the national level status and preparation in the context of the pandemic,” a tweet from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) said.

” During the meeting, the Prime Minister was informed that two-thirds of COVID-19 cases are in five states with an overwhelming proportion concentrated in big cities. The emerging scenario of the COVID-19 disease in the capital was also discussed during the meeting and the projections for the next two months were deliberated.
The Prime Minister also took cognisance of the recommendations of the Empowered Group on city and district wise requirements of hospital beds/isolation beds and instructed Health Ministry officials to undertake emergency planning in consultation with the states and Union territories.
The meeting comes as India’s corona virus tally crossed three lakh-mark on Saturday. The country recorded its highest-ever spike of 11,458 COVID-19 infections in the last 24 hours, taking the tally to 308,993. With over three lakh cases, India has become the fourth worst-hit nation by corona virus in terms of the number of cases, overtaking the UK. It is behind just three countries – the United States, Brazil and Russia.
According to the Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, India has reported 386 deaths due to the corona virus in the past 24 hours, taking COVID-19 toll to 8,884.
PM Modi suggested that Home Minister and the Health Minister should convene an emergency meeting with L-G, and  CM of Delhi in presence of all senior officials from the Centre, Delhi Govt & Municipal Corporations to plan a coordinated & comprehensive response to handle the rising cases of COVID19, the PMO said.
