Navjot Singh Sidhu says he ‘loves’ Captain Amarinder Singh
Sidhu, reportedly told by the Congress party that he cannot defy or speak against his boss Amarinder Singh. Sources say the comment followed the Congress’s stern caution to Mr Sidhu. The outspoken cricketer-turned-politician has been told categorically that Captain Amarinder Singh’s writ is important and he should not speak against him.
“You don’t want to wash dirty linen in public. He (Capt Amarinder Singh) is a fatherly figure, I love him, I respect him, I will sort it out myself,” Sidhu was quoted as saying by news agency ANI. Sidhu had, in a press conference in Hyderabad said, “My captain is Congress president Rahul Gandhi. He sent me everywhere (Kartarpur Corridor). Rahul is also the captain of our captain (Punjab Chief Minister).”
Meanwhile, posters have been put up on streets in Ludhiana saying ‘Punjab Captain is our captain’. “What Navjot Singh Sidhu said about Capt Amarinder Singh is unfortunate. Such things should not have been said by him,” said Women and Child Development and Transport Minister Aruna Chaudhary.
Minister of Forests Sadhu Singh Dharamsot said, “It seems Sidhu sahib has forgotten that he is a minister. He should know he is not running a comedy show here. He must learn how to respect the elders and seek an apology from the chief minister.””Sidhu sahib has said that Capt Amarinder Singh is not his captain, he said that he is Army’s captain. The tone and body language used by Sidhu towards the chief minister is not appropriate. It shows disrespect towards the CM. If Sidhu doubts Capt Amarinder’s leadership, his ability, then it becomes his moral duty to resign,” said T R Bajwa. (with Agency Inputs).
