Mulayam is ready to join hands with Mayavati
NEW DELHI : Sharing a stage with rival Nitish Kumar this week, Bihar politician Lalu Prasad Yadav suggested that Uttar Pradesh arch-enemies Mulayam Singh Yadav and Mayawati should also come together against the BJP.Mulayam Singh responded today, “Why not? If Lalu Yadav mediates, I can join hands with Mayawati.”
Mulayam Singh Yadav, the chief of UP’s ruling Samajwadi Party, and Bahujan Samaj Party leader Mayawati, have been bitter rivals for decades. Which is why, Mulayam’s statement caused a flutter among those who failed to see the sarcasm at first. It started with Lalu Yadav’s comment at a rally on Monday, hoping that like in Bihar, leaders in UP should also rise above differences and fight together against “communal forces.”
Mulayam Singh responded today, saying, “Lalu unka (Mayawati) haath pakad le aayen toh hum haat mila lenge (If Lalu brings Mayawati, I will join hands with her)”Nitish Kumar’s colleague, Janata Dal United leader Sharad Yadav was more serious when he responded to questions on bringing together Mulayam and Mayawati.”I won’t say this. I will just say that what happened in Bihar, we initiated it. Whatever happens in future, whether this kind of partnership can be extended, we will see and let you know,” Mr Yadav said noncommittally.
