Maharashtra: Over 3,400 New Cases, 113 Deaths Today
MUMBAI/ NEW DELHI : Maharashtra today witnessed yet another spike in coronavirus infections, reporting 3,427 new cases and 113 deaths, taking the total number of cases to 1,04,568 and its death toll to 3,830.
The State’s death count also surged by 113 to 3,830 in the last 24 hours. A total of 1,550 patients were discharged today, taking the number of recovered cases to 49,346. The COVID-19 recovery rate now stands at 47.2%, while the fatality rate is at 3.7%. Maharashtra yesterday became the first Indian state to have 1 lakh corona virus confirmed cases.
Earlier today, Maharashtra’s Health Minister Rajesh Tope capped the maximum price for COVID-19 tests (RT-PCR), which is conducted to detect coronavirus, at Rs 2,200. The cost of RT-PCR tests in Maharashtra has become the lowest, compared to any other state, in the country.
“If the private labs charge more than the prescribed upper limit, legal action would be taken against them,” he said. The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) has allowed 44 government and 36 private laboratories in the state to carry out corona virus tests. While the tests are free at the government-run laboratories, the ICMR had fixed charges at private labs at Rs 4,500.
While, A total of 253 new coronavirus cases and eight deaths were reported in Telangana today taking the tally to 4,737. The death toll now stands at 182. Rajasthan recorded 333 new Covid-19 cases and 10 deaths today. The total number of cases in the state is now at 12,401 and death toll is 282.
The Covid-19 tally in West Bengal reached 10,698 today after 454 new cases were registered. The total number of infections include 4542 cured/discharged and 5693 active cases. The death toll is now at 463 after 12 fatalities were reported.
A total of 344 new Covid-19 cases and 26 deaths were reported in Ahmedabad today, taking the total number of infections in the city to 16,305 and 1,165 total fatalities. In Andhra Pradesh climbed to 5,676 today after 222 new cases were recorded. The death toll increased by two to 82.
Delhi recorded 2,137 fresh Covid-19 cases on Friday, the highest single-day spike here, taking the tally in the city to over 36,000-mark, and the death toll due to the disease climbed to 1,214, authorities said.
As many as 71 fatalities were reported in the last 24 hours, according to the latest Delhi health department bulletin. This is the first time when over 2,000 cases have been reported in a day in Delhi. The previous highest spike in fresh cases 1,877 was recorded on June 11.
In the bulletin issued on Friday, the Delhi health department said, the death toll from coronavirus infection has risen to 1,214 and the total number of cases mounted to 36,824. A total of 58 fatalities, which took place from May 9 to June 6, were also declared on June 12, it said.
It, however, added that the cumulative death figures refer to fatalities where primary cause of death was found to be COVID-19, as per the report of the Death Audit Committee on the basis of case sheets received from various hospitals.
The infection tally on Thursday stood at 34,687, while the death count was 1,085. While there are 22,212 active cases, it said. As many as 2,77,463 tests have been conducted till date, it said.
Total number of COVID-19 positive patients under home isolation stands at 17,261, it said. As many as 345 patients are on ventilators or in the ICU. The number of containment zones in the city on Thursday rose to 222, from 216 on Thursday.
