Maharashtra CM race: Nitin Gadkari meets RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat
NAGPUR: As the question ‘Who will be Maharashtra’s new CM?’ continues to remain unanswered and many BJP supporters pitch for Nitin Gadkari’s name, the union transport minister met Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh chief Mohan Bhagwat at his residence in Nagpur on Saturday.
Gadkari’s meeting with Bhagwat comes a day after BJP’s front-runner for the post of Maharashtra chief minister Devendra Fadnavis met the latter.Meanwhile, Gadkari clarified that he met RSS chief to extend Diwali greeting– a tradition followed every year.
While rumours are doing the rounds that there are tensions brewing between Gadkari and Fadnavis over the CM’s post, the former has ruled himself out of the race. However, the meeting between Bhagwat and Gadkari has further raised the speculations as RSS has endorsed Fadnavis for Maharashtra’s CM in the past.
Gadkari had earlier told reporters in Nagpur that he is happy in Delhi and is holding important responsibiltity here.
The minister said he was asked to come to Delhi when he didn’t want to.“I will stand by the candidate whom party chooses for the CM’s post,” Gadkari stated.
