LS speaker Sumitra Mahajan holds All Party Meeting to discuss ways for smooth functioning of Parliament
NEW DELHI: Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan today held an all party meet to discuss ways for smooth functioning of Parliament in New Delhi. During the meeting, Mrs Mahajan sought cooperation from floor leaders of different parties to ensure smooth transaction of business in the House.
Leader of the Congress in the Lok Sabha, Mallikarjun Kharge, Union Ministers Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi and Rajiv Pratap Rudy were among those who attended the meeting. The session will commence tomorrow and it will continue till 13th of next month.
Last month, the Budget session of Parliament was prorogued to facilitate promulgation of the Ordinance to meet the financial requirements of Centrally ruled Uttarakhand. Hence, this will be an entirely new session.
During the session, government hopes to garner the support of opposition parties in passage of key legislations including the Goods and Services Tax Bill. Besides, Bill to replace Enemy Property Ordinance, Insolvency and Bankruptcy Code and Companies Amendment Bill will also be taken up.
Meanwhile, the Government has said it is ready to discuss all issues in Parliament. Talking to UNI in New Delhi yesterday, Minister of State for Parliamentary Affairs Mukhar Abbas Naqvi said though Uttarakhand issue is before the Supreme Court, the government is ready to discuss it, if the Opposition insists.
Earlier, the Congress had given notices for suspension of Question Hour in the Rajya Sabha to discuss Uttarakhand crisis when the Parliament session.
