KCR: Telangana to ‘Defeat Delhi Parties

KCR-02HYDERABAD: Amid speculations of Telanagana Chief Minister dissolving the Assembly to call for early elections, KCR called for the state to put up a united front to defeat Delhi-based political parties.

Not ruling out the possibility of advancing the Assembly election, Telangana Rashtra Samiti president and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao said on Sunday that the party would finalise its political course of action soon and communicate it to the people.

“Some media channels are saying KCR will dissolve the government. All TRS members have given me the right to take a decision on the future of Telangana. I will tell you when I take that decision,” KCR said at the TRS rally..However, the Telangana Rashtra Samiti chief refrained from making any announcements on early elections or forming alliances with other political parties for the 2019 elections.

Assembly elections in Telangana are scheduled to be held simultaneously with the Lok Sabha polls next year. However, it is being speculated that the TRS government may opt for early polls on the presumption that there is a positive mood among people about the government.
Addressing a mammoth ‘Pragathi Nivedana Sabha’ (progress report meeting) at the Kongara Kalam here, he said the Cabinet, which met earlier in the day, entrusted him with the responsibility of deciding on early election. “A decision will be announced at an appropriate time,” he said.
Appealing to the people not to become slaves of Delhi parties, he urged them to emulate Tamil Nadu for self-respect. Promising to take the State forward on the path of development, the Chief Minister sought the continued support of the people.

“You have to decide whether decisions relating to Telangana should be taken by us here or should we become slaves of Delhi parties,” Mr. Rao told the huge crowd, which had been congregating since early morning. Hundreds of buses, vans and tractor trolleys ferried people carrying the party’s pink flag and wearing pink scarves to the sprawling venue in Ranga Reddy district.
State Minister and Rao’s son K T Rama Rao said on Friday that discussions had been held in the party on advancement of the Assembly polls, but no decision has yet been taken. In this backdrop, the cabinet meeting assumed significance, but the ministers indicated the issue was not on Sunday’s agenda.

The speculation about early assembly polls has also gained ground with transfers of officials, including IAS officers, during the last several days. KCR had also said various surveys by the party indicated that TRS would win about 100 seats in 119-member assembly in the polls.
People in large number gathered at the venue utilising all the available means of transport and arrival of the convoys of vehicles continued well after the commencement of the Chief Minister’s address. A majority of the people who descended on the venue from the morning waited patiently till Mr. Rao completed his close to 50 minute address.
The TRS president was particularly critical of the Congress, claiming that the party’s affairs would be dictated by the “Delhi empire” though he did not directly name the party. The TRS was particular that the matters of Telangana were not dictated by the “Delhi empire” and the party was firm that it would not allow the State to become subservient to powers in Delhi. “We should follow the Tamil Nadu model where Tamils only decide the model of governance,” he said.
