Journalist KJ Singh, Mother Found Dead in Mohali ; Double Murder Suspected
CHANDIGRAH : Senior journalist K J Singh and his nonagenarian mother were found dead at their residence in Mohali, police said on Saturday. “There was injury marks on their necks,” Mohali Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Alam Vijay Singh said. Mr. Singh was in his sixties while his mother Gurcharan Kaur was 92 years old.
The murder came to light around 1pm when a visitor went inside the house after getting no response at the gate. Singh was a former news editor of the Indian Express, The Tribune and The Times of India in Chandigarh. Though unrelated, Singh is the third journalist to be killed in India within days of the murder of Gauri Lankesh, a Kannada journalist, and Shantanu Bhowmik, who was killed in Tripura earlier this week.
The police suspects Mr Singh and his mother, Gurcharan Kaur, were murdered. Mr Singh was a former news editor of The Indian Express. Senior police officers are present at Mr Singh’s house currently. Police said they were investigating the matter. Senior police officials have reached the spot.
