‘Jab hogi toh hogi, I believe in destiny’ , Rahul Gandhi on his marriage plan
NEW DELHI : Answering a question regarding his plans to get married, Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday said that he believed in destiny. ‘Jab hogi to hogi (it will happen, when it is bound to happen). I believe in destiny,” he said, while addressing the 112th annual session of Chamber Of Commerce. Rahul was asked the question by boxer Vijender Singh.
The 47-year-old bachelor has parried the question numerous times over the years and he has usually been evasive. Today, at the PHD Annual Awards for Excellence, he was cornered by the champion boxer, who had two questions. Mr Gandhi chose to tackle the second one first. “It’s a very old question,” he grinned when Vijender Singh said: “People always say when will Rahul Bhaiyya get married.” The boxer pressed: “…everybody is waiting for it. It will be quite something if you become Prime Minister and then marry.”
Reacting to what the Congress VP’s answer, party leader Shashi Tharoor and MP Thiruvananthapuram tweeted: Last year too, social media was abuzz over reports relating to Gandhi’s marriage, which made headlines after Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Subramanian Swamy tweeted that the event was being planned keeping in mind the Uttar Pradesh Assembly polls in 2017. Taking to the micro-blogging website, Swamy had said, “Heard from “Sources”: for UP election ‘Buddhu’ may marry a UP Brahmin girl soon.
One more desperate stunt ? .” To which, Mr Gandhi shot back: “I do exercise, swimming, am a black belt in aikido. But I don’t talk about it publicly. I do sports one hour every day. Though I admit I haven’t done so in the past three-four months.” Why not put up a video, it will inspire people, bantered Vijender. Mr Gandhi chuckled, “Fine…I will…”
